3-4 Sep 2012 Bruxelles (Belgium)

Scope

The HYCON2 NoE is dedicated to the stimulation and establishment of the long-term integration of the European research community, leading institutions and industry in the strategic field of control of complex, large-scale, and networked dynamical systems. The main objective of this Workshop on the two most important facets of the European effort to reduce and de-carbonize the consumption of energy - electrical power generation and distribution and process industries -  is,  to track and to assess potential societal and commercial benefits from the research in HYCON2 (across WP1, WP2, WP3, WP4 and WP6); to envision societal benefits resulting from the scientific achievements; to make these visible for academia, institutions and commercial parties in the EU and to advise and to assist commercial parties in bringing the project results closer to the market.

Main Workshop Themes

  • Electrical power generation and distribution: Distributed control of power networks; Large penetration of renewable energy sources; SmartGrids – New ICT tools for complex networks – applied at Generation-Transmission-Distribution levels; Preparing the arrival of large shares of plug-in hybrid and electrical vehicles; Load shaping; Smart Buildings and Smart Meters; Real time power markets; Multi-point HVDC networks
  • Process industry: Energy saving in chemical and petrochemical plants, coordination of unit operations to reduce energy consumption; management of steam and gas networks management
